For XXL’s 16 Anniversary Issue who else to grace the cover, none other than Drake. Got to admit he’s been on point with album promotion and that “OVO Sound” is definitely something serious. In the issue, Drake speaks on his upcoming third album, success, Amanda Bynes and more.
He talks about Nothing Was The Same:
I remember coming into this year thinking, “How am I going to cut through all these people and shine?” I’ve never been part of a year when so many legends are dropping projects. How am I going to be seen? I’m going to be like the kid waving in the background in the photo with all of his tall relatives. And, I guess, those were my initial thoughts, and not to say that I haven’t enjoyed some of the stuff that has come out this year, but it didn’t pan out the way I thought it was going to. I think I am going for it, to really establish what are murmurs or things being said quietly, “Um, I think that Drake might actually…” On September 17th I want people to be like, “Oh, we were right.”
Earlier they provided us a teaser video of their annual Freshman Class. Well, XXL finally reveals their picks of the 2013 Freshman Class. We admit there are some surprises to us in this list. Our girl Rap Diddy (Rapsody) didn’t make the list, but she’s still an incredible artist. Freestyles kick off on April 8th
XXL Freshman Class 2013
Dizzy Wright – 10 Spot People’s Champion Winner
Chief Keef – “The 11th Freshman”
In this recent interview with XXL, Cam’ron protege, Harlem’s own Vado talks about his Interscope deal. We’ve been waiting for awhile on his third installment on his Slime Flu series, Slime Flu 3 but with pushbacks, Kendrick Lamar, Chief Keef, dropping albums, he confirms with XXL his departure from the label.
So contrary to the rumors, you weren’t dropped from the label.
Never. I was never dropped. They gave me too much money. I walked off. They gave me the opportunity to leave so I left. They [weren’t] helping me in no shape or form. For example, with Chief Keef, they just threw his album out there without even building it or nothing. Interscope is the type where you just got to do it on your own. So you know like, TDE is helping Kendrick, Game is doing everything on his own, from getting the features and beats and putting it out on his own, so it’s sort of like play at your own risk over there. So I had to get back over here. I’m not over there on the West, I’m over here with people that’s seen me grow up at these labels. This is where I wanna be and they want me here.

It’s deeper than just comin’ up or making money. We got the potential and opportunities to change the world—and still have fun with it. It’s a responsibility that I feel like I’m willing to take.
The last of the year calls for the “My Last” collabo. XXL lines up Big Sean & Chris Brown for the Dec/Jan issue on stands December 4th.
I haven’t been as mature and thought out in the past, so, me growing now, it’s showing my progression. I used to use my Twitter account to vent, but now I mostly use it for marketing and promotions. Even if the media asks me something, if it’s cool then it’s, ‘What’s up?’ But if it’s anything that’s too negative, I don’t care to respond.
Isn’t this sweet. Wiz Khalifa and his pregnant girlfriend, Amber Rose covers XXL October / November 2012 Issue. The issue is set to hit newsstands on October 9th. O.N.I.F.C. in stores December 4th. Check out an excerpt where Wiz speaks on Amber Rose, and his forthcoming sophomore album.
Wiz On Getting Together With Amber:
“I love my baby. She’s gorgeous and it makes me look even cooler when I show how much I love her to other people… When I met Amber, she loved me for who I was. I had some money, but it was like to pay my bills and literally set myself up for a future. But I was wearing the same camo shorts and high-tops and Chucks. But she liked my swag and she liked me for who I was and I wasn’t afraid of that… She didn’t wanna date any entertainers or anybody in the business. She didn’t know who she wanted to be with, but she knew who she didn’t wanna be with.”
Wiz On Recording His New Album With Amber At Home:
“I just gotta do it. The most important thing is knowing that she is there and I have to tend to my babies. This is my first child ever in life. I gotta go hard at everything. As hard as I go in the studio, I gotta go just as hard taking care of my baby and making sure she’s alright, and I’m spending time with her and she doesn’t feel neglected.”
With a couple of failed singles to be completely blunt and honest. Tip has revealed to XXL some top notch collaborations on his forthcoming studio album, Trouble Man. Even though Clifford isn’t sure some of these tracks will make the final cut, he reveals the track titles for us. Awhile back, Tip also said J. Cole & Drake would be on the album, let’s hope that it still stands.
“I got a record entitled ‘Trouble Man’ with R. Kelly… that’s dope. I got a record called ‘Wave Hello’ with Cee Lo. I got a record called ‘Who Shall I Be Sorry’ for with Andre 3000. I got another record called ‘Guns and Roses’ with a surprises feature. It’s out the genre and it’s through the roof. That’s another dope record. I have records with Usher, a record with Lil Wayne song called ‘Ball’. “A record with Trey Songz.’ I got to figure all these records out though. I got a record with Trae Tha Truth and Juicy J called ‘Fight Music’ produced by Mike will.”
In preparation for the bawse’s forthcoming album God Forgives, I Don’t. Rick Ross covers XXL‘s July/August issue. In the issue he speaks on his health scares, his album, Def Jam/Warner Bros, and alot more. The issue hits newsstands July 14th.
Finally back from my hiatus in NY, my apologies. If you’ve been heavy on your twitter game this summer you’ve heard about the infamous Joe Budden Pool Parties. XXL got the invite and took us inside the rapper’s estate which was packed with celebrities like Victor Cruz & Shawn Marion, along with ass galore. Check it out after the jump.
