Been awhile since I (Ace) vented on how I felt about certain topics, situations about the music industry. I’m not hating, this album just didn’t do it for me. Here it goes. Since the release on the Kanye West presented, G.O.O.D. Music compilation album, Cruel Summer I tried my best to enjoy it. Welp, didn’t happen. The features on the album sounded too much to assume and overlooked the artists on the G.O.O.D. Music label. Records like “Cold,” “I Don’t Like,” should’ve never seen the light of day on this album, simply because they were overplayed and don’t fit the album. Ye’ is Ye so it made the final cut for the album. Re-mastering songs doesn’t mean add them to the album Yeezy. “Clique” sounds like a mixtape cut, but still dope nonetheless. The over use of the word “Clique” is annoying, but Hit-Boy outshines everyone on the record with the live choir and 808 kicks and snares. He’s not even rapping. That says something to me. The solo cut, “Creepers” from Kid Cudi sounds like a 808 & Heartbreak‘s leftover reference track. Not feeling that one either. The standout tracks were “The Morning”, “The One” and “New God Flow.” “The One” is one of those tracks were it makes you think, sometimes I feel artists need to have at least one record like this on their album. This record was it. Even the 2 Chainz verse matched the song except that “F**k her face line. Gotta give props to Marsha Ambrosius for that sweet angelic voice on that record. !llmind is one of my favorite producers. Glad to see him shine on “The Morning.” With Ghostface Killah featured on “New God Flow” took it to another level with me, what a great add to that record. Other records like “The Bliss” should have been for John Legend & Teyana Taylor solo projects or something. Not saying Ye doesn’t let his own artists shine on this compilation album, but that record is too good for that album. “To The World” is an incredible record in my opinion. The beat just overshadows the song itself just a little too much. Like I said in the beginning the album itself just didn’t do it for me. Some standout records, and most disappointments. All that f*cking hype for nothing. One thing you got to admit, Ye’ doesn’t care about what people think of his art/direction when it comes to his music, the end result was this awful tragedy of called Cruel Summer.
