“This past weekend, I met my grandma, Beulah Mae Jarrett Douthit’s family (my dad’s mother) for the first time. My grandma passed in 1965, so I’ve had no connection to her at all. I listened to the elders talk about her all day. One elder in particular, her oldest niece, who’s 78-years-old, told me that her nickname was ‘Bladey Mae’, because of the blades she carried around in the purse and pockets, to protect her children from a segregated South, one of them being my dad. I was looking for a name for a new beat tape, and that one just came out of nowhere.”
Bladey Mae, contains 73 beats, YUP 73. Stream after the jump. Purchase here.
As we all know by now, Kendrick Lamar has been making headlines with his verse on Big Sean’s “Control”. So far we’ve seen tweets, responses, and now we’ve get a debate from 9th Wonder & Young Guru. Before they played Rapsody’s She Got Game, 9th Wonder and Young Guru discussed some valid and solid points about Kendrick Lamar’s verse. Great listening.
Gotta love studio sessions especially with the right artists and producers who film the sessions. Since the two collaborated in the past with “Face The World,” Nipsey Hussle and 9th Wonder are in the studio with 1500 or Nothing. I’m a fan of this beat. We definitely need another Nipsey Hussle & 9th Wonder collaboration.
A couple of months ago 9th Wonder previewed the instrumental for his record and announced that it was for Nipsey Hussle. Today, Nipsey Hussle released the song and deemed it “Face The World”. This is one of my anticipated records I was waiting for since I heard the preview. Good goodness gracious, 9th Wonder & Nipsey Hussle sounds great together. We need more records. 9th and West Coast emcees in general sounds awesome. Off the forthcoming project from Nipsey Hussle entitled TM3 Victory Lap.

I remember hearing from 9th Wonder himself of how the record “Threat” came about in 2003 on Jay-Z’s The Black Album. Today, in this latest episode of Life + Times Decoded, 9th Wonder talks how the record came about, the history of the beat/song, and more.
The sample is R. Kelly’s “A Woman’s Threat” in case you didn’t know. Check out the “Decoded” episode with the Grammy award winning producer after the jump.
